19-year-old jailed for causing death of teenagers Ben Rogers and Kaitlyn Davies

A Swansea man has been sentenced to six years’ imprisonment after his driving caused the death of two teenagers in 2022.

19-year-old Owain Hammett-George, (pictured) from Birchgrove, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving in February this year.

He also pleaded guilty to one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

19-year-olds Ben Rogers and Kaitlyn Davies died in the incident, which took place on the B4436 in Bishopston in May 2022. A 17-year-old female, Casey-Leigh Thomas, was also taken to hospital with serious injuries, including a brain injury and a broken neck.

Detective Sergeant Deborah Hobrough said: “This was a tragic incident which saw two young people lose their lives, and another seriously injured. Rightfully the driver is about to begin a custodial sentence in prison.

“I would like to thank the family for their dignity and composure they have shown throughout the investigation.

“I hope this case highlights the risks of dangerous driving to other road users.”
