Digital Assessments extended to Long Covid service

Hywel Dda University Health Board has extended its Digital Assessments online services for suitable patients using its Long Covid services across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

Digital Assessments help patients to inform their clinical team about their health in-between appointments. They are currently used successfully across a variety of health board services, including Ophthalmology, Heart Function, and Lymphoedema services.

Whilst the majority of people with post-COVID-19 symptoms show improvement between 4 and 12 weeks, some continue to be impacted for longer than 12 weeks and suffer from long-term effects, often referred to as Long Covid. These individuals require further assessment and rehabilitation for their symptoms, and support for the way in which these symptoms affect quality of life.

With support from the multi professional rehabilitation professionals, including Therapy Assistant Practitioner, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Dietitians, Psychologists and Advance Nurse Practitioners, the service provides a comprehensive individualised person-centred assessment, aims to support and enable patients to manage their ongoing health and wellbeing.

Professor Phil Kloer, Deputy Chief Executive and Medical Director at Hywel Dda UHB, said: “For some people, coronavirus can cause symptoms that last many weeks or months after they have recovered from the infection. This post-COVID-19 syndrome, or “Long COVID”, can significantly impact a person’s health and well-being, which is why we want to support people as much as possible.

“It’s important to stress that Digital Assessments do not replace clinical care. The information provided through this secure platform will provide regular monitoring of symptoms at home to help us better understand your health and make the best use of the time spent with your clinical team.”
