Local Member of the Senedd, Rebecca Evans MS has praised the Welsh Government’s new investment in a scheme to provide young people across Wales with work experience to reach their full potential.
The £500,000 scheme will support up to 500 learners aged 14-16, who are at risk of leaving education. These young people will gain a high quality work experience placement, in a sector that they are interested in, to help engage with and progress their career ambitions.
Careers Wales will work with schools and employers across Wales to match learners to the right placement.
Welcoming today’s funding announcement, Rebecca Evans MS said:
“It is so important that young people have the self-belief and confidence they need to make the most of opportunities and to achieve their ambitions. This new scheme will give young people the chance to grow their network and gain skills in an area of work that inspires them”.
Today’s funding follows a successful pilot, with young people across Wales already benefitting from Welsh Government funded work experience. Young people involved in the scheme will be expected to engage or reengage with core GCSE studies at their school as part of the scheme, whilst attending their work experience placement.
