A woman who breached a restraining order nine times by contacting her elderly dad has been jailed.
The 35-year-old had been prevented from making any contact with her dad after she assaulted him, leaving him with facial injuries.
The incident was reported through a 999 call to Dyfed-Powys Police in December 2022, during which a woman’s voice could be heard in the background making threats.
Officers went straight to the address and found an elderly man with injuries to his face – fortunately, they weren’t serious, but he was shaken and scared his daughter might return.
Because of her behaviour and the threats made, the incident was categorised as high risk domestic abuse.
The daughter was arrested immediately, and was charged the same day with assault by beating and assaulting an emergency worker.
Within a week, she had appeared in court and was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison. A 12-month restraining order was also put in place preventing her from contacting her father.
However, she was released on licence mid-way through her sentence and soon breached the restraining order by persuading her father to visit her house, threatening to harm herself if he didn’t.
Police were called, and she was arrested and recalled to prison to serve the rest of her sentence.
However, since then, she has persistently breached the restraining order. A list of contact she has instigated since her release from prison has been presented to court. This details nine incidents in which she’s breached her restraining order, using controlling and manipulative behaviour which has caused mental, physical, and financial distress to her dad.
As a result of these breaches, she has now been jailed for 12 months.
Officer in case Detective Sergeant Zoe Powell said: “Restraining orders are put in place to protect victims from perpetrators, and we take all breaches seriously.
“For the defendant in this case to have breached her court order nine times in such a short space of time shows her lack of care and compassion towards her elderly dad, and her persistence to continue to cause him harm.
“We hope he feels able to live safely now his daughter has been served a 12-month prison sentence and hopefully she will receive the support and time she needs to reflect and reform.”
