North Wales Police still here for you this Christmas

Christmas is an extremely busy time across the emergency services, Police officers and staff across several departments will be continuing to keep North Wales safe during this festive season. Here are just some of them…

Connor said “I’ve worked for North Wales Police for around 6 years; 3 years of this in the Control Room on the Eastern Pod covering Flintshire & Wrexham. I’ll be working a 6pm – 3am shift on Christmas Day. This will be the second time I have worked Christmas Day during my time in NWP and do consider myself slightly fortunate as I’ll be working a night shift which means I’ll be getting some part of Christmas Day with my family before coming into work which some colleagues wouldn’t get. On the flip side however, I do take pride in being part of the team from the Control Room, working hard to keep the public safe during the Christmas period and also spend the shift with my Rota family.”

Joe said “I have been with the North Wales Police close to four years and in the Force Control Room for just over a year. This will be the first time I work on Christmas day with North Wales Police. Luckily I’m a member of a good team, which will make the day still enjoyable even if we are working and not spending it with our family. I am working a night shift which means I will still get to spend some of the day with my family and most importantly have some Christmas dinner.”

Response

Most of us have “work families”…one work family who will be spending Christmas together again this year is Rota 2 from Wrexham Town. They will be working 7pm to 7am on Christmas morning then back again at 7pm Christmas night to 7am on Boxing Day.

Sergeant Humphreys, PC Thompson, PC Horton, PC Eaton, PC O’Shaughnessy, PC Soares, PC Robertson, PC Hughes, PC Fleming, PC Howson and PC Poole will be there for you throughout the Christmas period, keeping you safe.

“Although we are sad to be away from our families, we are happy to be protecting the public and supporting each other in doing so”.

Crime Scene Investigators

Crime Scene Investigators will also be working on Christmas Day and Boxing Day across the whole force, ensuring that scenes of crime are preserved and processed properly to secure any forensic evidence.

Volunteers

Special Constable Brandon Alford will be assisting his regular colleagues with a busy Christmas demand operation from 7pm on Christmas Eve to 3am on Christmas morning in Llandudno.

“Christmas is such a busy time for policing so I’m happy to give up some of my time on Christmas Day to help my regular colleagues to keep our community safe”

Senior officers

Chief Inspector Llinos Davies, responsible for Gwynedd County, will be working a 10 hour shift on Christmas Day evening, overseeing the Force from St Asaph control room.

Chief Inspector Davies said: “Policing doesn’t stop over the festive period, including Christmas Day. I am grateful to have a team of dedicated officers and staff who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.

I would like to wish all a safe and happy Christmas. For many the day is a special time spent with family. However, we understand that this isn’t the case for everyone, and North Wales Police are here, ready to respond to anyone from the community who may need our help.”

Roads Policing Unit

PC Arwel Jones will be working a late shift (4pm – 2am) over Christmas whilst working on the Roads Policing Unit.

“It’s not my first time to be working at Christmas and probably won’t be the last. As a shift worker you know you might end up working on Christmas Day so it’s expected. I have two young boys so it will be difficult leaving them to go to work, however I’m thankful I’ll be able to see them open their gifts from Santa on Christmas morning.

“It’s certainly interesting working over the festive period. No job is ever the same. As well ensuring the roads are running and motorists are safe we’ll also be on standby to assist colleagues in local policing and response.”
