At approximately 4.30am today (Saturday, November 26) a road traffic collision occurred on the A473 between Llanharan and Talbot Green Business Park.
The collision, involving a red Audi A3 car and a heavy goods vehicle, happened on the section of road between the High Corner and the Diamond Centre of Wales.
One man has died, and one woman is in hospital in a critical condition. Both were occupants of the Audi.
Next of kin have been informed.
The community is thanked for its patience while the road remains closed.
South Wales Police is appealing for witnesses to the collision or those who have dash cam footage from the area around the time of the collision to make contact quoting occurrence *398960.
