TODAY (21st October) at their Autumn conference in Wrexham, the Welsh Liberal Democrats have called for the further devolution of transport powers as well as an increase in funding for train and bus services.
Wales transport system has been eroded by a severe lack of underinvestment from Westminster. With the Tories instead choosing to abandon HS2 and waste billions in the process.
The Liberal Democrats are now calling for the immediate allocation of the £5bn in funding for HS2 to the Welsh government to invest in connecting rural Wales with electrified trains and more frequent bus services.
Commenting, Jane Dodds MS said:
“For far too long now Wales and it’s transport system has suffered from a neglectful UK Conservative government who clearly do not have the nation’s best interests at heart.
By refusing to allocate desperately needed funds and choosing to abandon HS2 and waste billions in the process, the Tories have allowed Wales’ public transport infrastructure to rot away.
Wales deserves better than this, we believe that the Welsh public have the right to a well-funded and well-run transport system.
A better connected Wales is a stronger Wales.”
