Jayne Bryant MS visits Newport Yemeni Community

THE Member of the Senedd for Newport West, Jayne Bryant MS went along to see first-hand the impact of work funded through The National Lottery to support Newport’s Yemeni community at their newly refurbished building in Pillgwenlly.

Newport Yemeni Community Association is a non-profit charity established in 2019 that serves communities of Newport. The organisation holds a range of activities for people, including sports activities for young people as well as girl-only football and cricket.

Thanks to National Lottery players, Newport Yemeni Community Association were awarded £99,999 in earlier this year to refurbish of their newly acquired community building in Pillgwenlly that will enable the group to offer more activities, and to develop young people from the local area.

On her visit, Jayne Bryant MS met with Reggie Al-Haddi and Debbie Jenkins, both from Newport Yemeni Community Association, who gave a tour of the facilities and demonstrated how the group were making a difference for people in the community.

The Foundation also benefited from a £9,980 National Lottery grant in 2020 to run weekly sports sessions, cookery sessions, and to hold a family fun day for their local community. This project brought together young people from across the local community to enjoy different activities and to promote a healthier community.
