Swansea free bus offer returns for summer holidays

All bus journeys starting and ending in Swansea will be free for everyone each weekend from the end of July and throughout August and will offer a total of 20 days of free travel (Fri – Mon).

The Council launched the free travel initiative during last year’s school summer holidays with tens of thousands of people taking the chance to travel for free to do the shopping, see friends for a coffee, visit local landmarks and many of the wonderful beaches along the coastline.

The money-saving public transport scheme was also on offer during other school holidays including Christmas, February half term and Easter.

Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council, said the offer was back because of popular demand. He said:

“The free bus initiative has been an incredible success over the last 12 months and now the summer’s here, there’s another opportunity for everyone in Swansea to benefit.

“School summer holidays can be an expensive time for families who are keen to keep their children occupied. Our free bus initiative gives everyone the chance to travel around our wonderful city and ensures they can save their hard earned money for the wide variety of attractions on offer.”

Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Environment & Infrastructure, said:

“As well as this being a money-saving scheme for many, the initiative is also an attempt by the Council to encourage more people in the city to make better use of public transport and leave the car at home.

“The rising cost of fuel is something that is increasingly making it difficult for car owners to keep up with and so I’m confident we will see even more people this summer choose the bus instead.”

The free bus initiative applies to all bus journeys starting and finishing within the Swansea Council area until 7pm on days when the offer is running. Travellers will need to comply with any Welsh Government pandemic rules in force at the time.
