Visitors to Llyn Padarn in Llanberis were invited to take part in a water safety engagement event over the weekend, aimed at raising awareness of the risks associated with open water activities following several incidents during the recent warm weather.
The event provided an opportunity for swimmers, kayakers, paddleboarders and other water users to speak with safety professionals and learn more about staying safe while enjoying the water.
Throughout the weekend, advice and information were shared on a range of important topics, including the importance of wearing appropriate safety equipment such as buoyancy aids, recognising the signs of cold-water shock, and understanding how to respond if someone gets into difficulty in the water.
The event also highlighted the RNLI’s Float to Live campaign, which provides potentially life-saving advice for anyone who unexpectedly enters the water.
The Float to Live message is simple:
- Tilt your head back with your ears submerged
- Relax and try to control your breathing
- Use your hands and feet to help you stay afloat
- Once breathing is under control, call for help or swim to safety if you are able
