Local housebuilder launches public consultation for proposed development in Pontarddulais

A leading local housebuilder has launched its latest public consultation for its proposed development in Pontarddulais.

Persimmon Homes West Wales plans to construct 516 zero-carbon ready homes for local people on land south of Glanffrwd Road. The no-gas site will feature one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses, which will be powered by air-source heat pumps and solar panels. A number of properties will also be transferred to a housing association partner.

As part of its extensive engagement with the local community, the developer is inviting the public to review and feedback on the plans before they are submitted to the local planning authority. Two such events will be held on Tuesday 17th October between 2pm-7pm and Tuesday 24th October 2023 from 1pm-6pm at The Mechanics Institute, 45 St Teilo Street, Pontarddulais.

As part of the proposed scheme, Persimmon also plans to deliver a new primary school, community building, and sustainable drainage infrastructure alongside financial contributions towards an all-weather 3G pitch at Pontarddulais Comprehensive School and public transport improvements in the vicinity.

A network of green infrastructure and ecological enhancement are a core part of the vision for the development, while parks, play equipment, and playing pitches are inclusive of the public open space that Persimmon is offering.

Should the development go ahead, off-site improvements to the Water Street/Station Road junction and to the A489, Alltiago Road, Pentre Road, and Saint Teilo Street through the Installation of Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation (MOVA) will also be made.

The housebuilder held a similar consultation last year, and commenting on the latest engagement with the local community, Persimmon Homes West Wales’ Managing Director Stuart Philips, said:

“Persimmon is pleased to present our updated scheme for north Pontarddulais which outlines our plans to deliver over 500 zero-carbon ready homes in the area, giving local people the opportunity to remain in the community where they grew up.

“Our latest consultation provides an excellent opportunity for us to demonstrate the scheme in detail and the many community benefits it will deliver, as well as ensuring the public can have their say and input into our plans.

“The development would support over 1,500 jobs during construction, and will see a wide range of quality house types for local families to meet local need, while a number of properties will be transferred to a housing association partner for the purposes of tackle local waiting lists.

“As part of the scheme, we would also deliver a new primary school, community building, and sustainable drainage infrastructure alongside a significant financial contribution towards an all-weather 3G pitch at Pontarddulais Comprehensive School.

“Furthermore, the green vision for the site, the diverse use of public open space, off-site transport improvements and the active travel provision that make up the proposals demonstrate a commitment to provide a high-quality and sustainable development.

“We look forward to engaging with the local community in the coming weeks as we seek to finalise a zero-carbon ready scheme that benefits Pontarddulais and leaves a legacy that delivers economic, social and environmental value for the local community.”
