Pups born with rare genetic trait surprise Llanelli family

A Llanelli family has had a wonderful surprise when the family boxer dog gave birth to a litter of puppies.

Penny the boxer dog is now the proud mother of 11 adorable puppies. There were 7 pups born with short tails and 4 with long tails. The pups arrived 15 hours early at the O’Sullivan household in Llanelli.

The surprise came when seven of the puppies were born with naturally occurring “bobbed tails”, a rare genetic trait that is not uncommon in some breeds, including Boxers.

The O’Sullivans, Peter and Rhian, encountered issues registering the puppies with the Kennel Club due to the unusual tail structure.

One vet refused to confirm that the bobbed tails were natural, citing lack of experience with such cases. However, a local veterinarian practice was able to provide the necessary documentation, confirming that the shorter tails were indeed a result of natural throwback genetics.

The family has been delighted by the attention their new additions have received from friends and neighbours.

Their daughter, Erin, even shared the news with her classmates before the end of term, leading to a flurry of visitors to the O’Sullivan home.

Rhian encouraged potential new owners to consider adopting a Boxer puppy, praising their loving and loyal nature, intelligence, and high energy levels.
