A NEW one-stop-shop website been made available to support many thousands of Swansea families looking to save money during the cost of living crisis.
Put together by Swansea Council, the website at swansea.gov.uk/costoflivinghelp includes information on payments local people may be entitled to, as well as energy saving tips and advice for residents struggling with debt.
Job vacancies and guidance for people searching for work is also included on the website, along with information on where people can find help to access food and other essential items.
Since it went live at the start of September, the website has already generated close to 35,000 page views.
Other sections of the website focus on help for parents in paying for school costs. This includes school uniform grants for families on low incomes, and information on eligibility for free school meals.
The council’s Local Area Coordinators are out and about in communities across the city, to let as many people as possible know about the support.
Free access to computers and WiFi is available at all city libraries.
Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said:
“We know many people in Swansea will be concerned about how they make ends meet during the cost of living crisis, so we’d like to reassure all our residents that we’re here to support them – just like we were during the pandemic.
“All the information people may need is now available in one place on the new website, making it easier for residents to find out about all the support that’s on hand to help them potentially access payments or save money.
“This follows-on from the millions of pounds we’ve already paid into many thousands of people’s bank accounts in recent months as part of cost of living and fuel support schemes funded by the Welsh Government and run by the council.”
The new cost of living website also includes information on free or low-cost events and activities upcoming in Swansea, as well as details on government-funded schemes to help with childcare.
Links to other organisations providing advice and support are also available, as well as information on the council’s Tip Treasures re-use shop in Llansamlet Recycling Centre that offers low-cost electrical goods, furniture, clothing, homeware and other items.
