RNLI supports North Wales Special Constabulary

SPECIAL Sergeant Kristian Ferns has volunteered for North Wales Police for three years and obtained Temporary Special Sergeant status in May of 2022.

Kristian has undertaken many different duties including a Traffic Impact Day, nighttime economy patrols, resiliency during Storm Eunice and undertaken a large number of response duties dealing with 999 calls.

Last week, Kristian participated in an Inclusive Leadership course, the biggest investment into leadership development by North Wales Police for 15 years.

The course took place over 4 days and focused on work-place culture, wellbeing and staff performance. Lead by a team of facilitators, delegates developed the knowledge and skills to create a people-focused and supportive environment that will have a positive impact on the officers, staff & volunteers they manage.

Kris’s day job is a Coastal In-Service Support Manager for the RNLI dealing with compliance, assurance and engineering issues. The RNLI are pleased to support Employer Supported Policing, giving 5 days of additional paid leave for those volunteering with the Special Constabulary. Due to this, Kristian is able to attend the Inclusive Leadership course and take back to his workplace all the insights he gained as a result. Not only will it help him in Special Sergeant role, but in his day job too!

Darren Veevers, RNLI Regional Engineering and Supply Lead said “The RNLI charity is pleased to be able to support Kris in his voluntary role with the Special Constabulary.

With volunteers at the very heart of our organisation, we recognise and appreciate what value people giving up their own time can bring. The skills Kris has already gained are transferrable and bringing benefits to the RNLI, for which we are grateful.”

ESP is positive for Specials, their companies, North Wales Police and our local communities. 450 companies are signed to Employer Supported Policing across the UK, from the RNLI, British Airways, TESCO and ASDA to the Admiral Group PLC and CGI IT UK LTD.
