Former Wales rugby star fined for speeding

Former Wales rugby star Sam Warburton OBE has been fined for speeding.

34-year-old Sam Kennedy Warburton of Rhiwbina, Cardiff appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on September 21st.

The court heard that on 24/02/2023 at Pembrokeshire Warburton drove a motor vehicle, namely on a restricted road, namely the A478 Begelly at a speed exceeding 30 miles per hour. The speed recorded by means of LASER was 38 miles per hour. The speed limit was signified by street lighting placed at less than 200 yard intervals. Contrary to sections 81(1) and 89(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and Schedule 2 to the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.

The case was proven using a Single Justice Procedure.

Warburton was fined £660.00 and ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £250.00 and costs of £90.00. His driving record endorsed with 3 points.
